We’ll be hosting a pruning workshop at the farm this Saturday, March 7th – only a few days from now! Perhaps you’d like to join us?

Pruning is something we do every year at Hundred Fruit Farm for just about all our fruit and nut trees as well as all the various berry shrubs we have. It’s essential for keeping fruit/nut trees and berry bushes from turning into a thicket of unproductive branches. Pruning is a great opportunity to promote new growth (and better fruits), reign back excessive vertical growth, and remove diseased, damaged, and dead wood. It’s also a great opportunity to get out in the orchard in late winter or early spring and reconnect with the natural world a bit after so much time inside over the winter.
This workshop will focus on the basics of pruning – why and how we prune. We’ll go through the common techniques that are used for pruning just about anything as well as how the techniques and strategy differ for different species of berries and trees.
The workshop will take place from 10 am to 4 pm with a lunch break in between. We will provide plenty of pruning tools, but we encourage you to bring your own pruning tools if you have them. The workshop will cover pruning theory and practice, and because it’s a hands-on workshop, everyone who attends will have a chance to practice the various techniques and shapes taught in the workshop.
